Installation

Our customers have a choice- we can either deliver to your property or install the finished items ourselves. We do not sub contract our fitting projects - these are all carried out by our own team of joiners who take as much pride in installing the work as they do in producing it. We have had much praise over the years for Dan, Sam and the other men. They have had many glowing reports of their cleanliness, timeliness and politeness, with many customers entrusting their properties to them whilst they are away or at work. Our office has a file full of testimonials of this nature, and prospective customers are welcome to visit and view both these references and any work being undertaken at the time of their visit.

Delivery

If installation is not required, we will deliver the goods to your property. This is free within the Devon and immediate area, and can be arranged for a very reasonable cost elsewhere. We are currently carrying out a lot of Custom Joinery Channel Islands work, and are therefore happy to consider any joinery projects in that area.

Technical Detail

Traditional glazing bars are constructed as an integral part of the window structure, whereas Duplex bars are solid timber bars bonded to the glass over spacers incorporated in a double glazed unit. The Duplex system is sometimes chosen for reasons of economy as the manufacturing time is less and the glazing costs can be lower, but the overall visual effect is very similar.

If a window is constructed where one or more of the panes does not need to be opened, there are two options available, which affect both price and appearance;

Fixed casement- in this option, the appearance of all windows in a range is the same regardless of whether any particular element is opening or fixed. This is achieved by creating matching casements that look identical even if a particular part of the window does not need to open.

Direct glazed- if this option is chosen, the glass is set directly in to the frame rather than in to its own individual casement. This impacts on both price (less work and less timber means a cheaper price) and visual appearance as the “sight line” is altered if the direct glazed unit is next to an opening casement- this is shown in the example below.

Uneven Site Line Window

In this picture, you can see that the left hand side will be glazed directly in to the frame, whereas the right hand has its own casement- the visual appearance or "sight line" of the bottom of the window is interrupted.

Our windows are manufactured using traditional haunched mortise and tenon joinery, time tested over many years as the sturdiest method of manufacture.

We use solid timbers only, whereas some of our cheaper competitors will use laminated or engineered materials which will not stand up to years of wear and tear in the same way as a Devon Custom Joinery window.

All of our windows come complete as standard with weatherproof seals, including sliding sashes.

Our windows are glazed using putty tape on both sides of the glass, and as an extra precaution the cavities are filled with glazing silicone.

Our standard casement thickness is 55mm, above industry norm and therefore very sturdy and less given to movement.
