Bespoke windows from Devon Custom Joinery
Custom Solid Timber Windows
Our solid timber windows are created from start to finish at our workshop in Barnstaple, north Devon, and can be manufactured either on a supply only basis or fitted by our own joiners.
A new window or range of windows can make an enormous difference to the appearance and saleability of a property, as can be seen from these before and after photos:
We do not have a standard range of windows, which means that we have the flexibility to create whatever kind of window that a customer may need, and can manufacture any scale of project, from one unit to multiple deliveries.
The simple procedure to purchase a window or range of windows from Devon Custom Joinery would start with a visit or phone call followed by a free detailed written quotation. These quotations are fixed and the customer therefore has the peace of mind of knowing that there will be no nasty surprises. Our quotations also include absolutely everything - our windows arrive fully glazed, already hung in the frame, fully fitted with all necessary ironmongery and with two coats of either high quality primer/undercoat or wood stain. This is an important point to consider when customers are "shopping around" as a lot of manufacturers give a basic price, to which must be added separate costs for glass, ironmongery, delivery etc.
Our prices are all inclusive and fixed (unless the customer chooses to make any substantial alterations once the initial order has been made). We issue a standard "specification approval and authority to proceed" which will ensure that both the design and the price are known and approved by all parties.
We also have a CAD service (Computer Aided Design) which allows both our joiners and our customers to see the finished effect prior to manufacture:
One of the first considerations when selecting a window is the type of timber. We can manufacture in either softwood or hardwood, and this choice is often dictated by the type and position of the window. We are quite happy to make our windows from joinery grade softwood, but for a small premium we would recommend hardwood, which for as little as 8% extra will give a lifetime of enduring quality. The majority of our windows are constructed using Iroko hardwood, which is a dense and naturally oily hardwood that withstands the wet and windy British conditions very well, and with minimal maintenance will last a lifetime.
We do of course use many other timbers such as oak, sapele and idigbo, and are more than happy to discuss individual customer requirements to ensure that the right timber is used in the right environment.
